Comments have been closed and an Otterbox protective case has been awarded to Tricia Honea. Thanks to everyone who entered - I am feeling a lot better about all the boneheaded things I've done to my personal electronics. I'm proud to know that I'm in really good company with you all.
I'm feeling a little bit like Santa this week, which is kind of strange when you consider the fact that I'm Jewish... and it's not Christmas.
But I've been having a lot of fun getting out and meeting people, as I did on Sunday at the Streamy Awards, as a guest of Kodak. My friends there provided me with some equipment to use at the event... AND a couple of additional items to give away to my readers. Scroll down to see and enter.
I have also been getting a lot of use out of my new smartphone, and this time around, I am protecting it with a super duper OtterBox commuter case, which was given to me free for review purposes.
This made my husband really happy, because he is always yelling at me for dropping my personal electronics into a tote bag that also holds a lot of other crap items, which all jostle around in there and end up scratching the little LCD screens.
My problem is that when I need to use my camera or iPod or phone, I don't want to waste a lot of time fumbling with a case, and I've been irritated with the ones I've used in the past, because the plastic overlays dull the functionality of the touchscreens.
I'm pretty certain this is why my last phone barely made it intact through my last two-year service contract.
I love my new Blackberry Bold too much to torture it that way, so I truly wanted to try one of the Otterbox cases, which are designed to fit each specific phone model perfectly.
The one I'm using is the Commuter case, which the company describes as one that offers "protection without bulk" (this is in contrast to their top of the line Defender case, which I concluded gave me more protection than I actually needed.
I like the case because it fits so tightly, I barely know it's there. There's no interference with the keypad, trackpad or camera. The only difficulty I have is when I need to charge the phone - and only because I tend to do this late at night when most of the lights have been turned off, which means I can't easily see which of the little flaps is covering the port. (And this is a problem I would likely have anyway, so it's silly to blame the case).
In fact, my only real complaint about the case is that the only color it comes in for the Blackberry Bold is black... which isn't a complaint at all, given how well the thing protects my new phone.
Otterbox makes specific cases for a variety of small electronic devices: from Nokia to Palm to HTC... and of course, for iPods, iPhones and (soon!) iPads. And they have generously offered to give one away (value up to $50) to a SoCal Mom reader!
So we're having another little drawing: To enter, please leave me a comment and tell me about the worst thing you've ever done - or almost done - to one of your electronic devices. (Mine? I left a phone in my jeans pocket and threw it in the washer!) MAKE SURE I HAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS so I can contact you if you are a winner!
