This place is a lot more diverse than it was when our family settled here (in 1963 - almost 50 years ago!)... and it has resulted in a yummy mix of different cuisines.
Not that we didn't have any variety when I was a kid: We regularly dined on Mexican, Italian and Chinese food (although the latter two were of the pizza/spaghetti and chop suey variety). And our local supermarket had a refrigerated section devoted to Japanese delicacies, like pretty pink-edged fish cakes and vacuum packed udon.
Today's Valley is a different place entirely, as illustrated by all the Korean businesses thriving now in Northridge. I was musing on that when I pitched my latest post running at CBS Local Los Angeles.
